Miss Sierra Leone Arizona 2021: Nafishatu Isha Turay

My name is Nafishatu Isha Turay. I was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, but grew up in the United States. I came to the US in 2005 when I was eight years old. Even though I grew up in the United States, I had to work hard to learn and be able to speak English and get accustomed to the ways of the Americans. Before coming to the US, I remember having to wake up early in the morning to go fetch water from the well and having to wash my clothes with my hands. I never lost that side of me. The side that always reminds me to be grateful for what I have today and how far I have come. I am highly blessed and tremendously privileged to live the life that I now have. I attend Phoenix college with the hopes of one day becoming a counselor, as well as a businesswoman. Currently, I work as a BHT at a rehabilitation center. What I am most passionate about is serving God and helping others. My dream is to be the voice of others, be it in Africa, the United States, or any other part of the world. I hope to one day own five to ten foundations that contribute to feeding the poor, educating children who don’t have the chance to go to school, helping young girls that are forced into early marriage and so much more; by the grace of God. When I depart from this world, I want people to be able to say that I made a difference in their lives not for fame or to boast, but for them to know and feel loved; even if it has to do with the smallest thing. This is who I am.
