Miss Rwanda: Sandra Elyse Ishimwe

Sandra Elyse Ishimwe is 23 years old, resides in phoenix, Arizona. She was born and raised in Nyaruguru district/Rwanda where she completed her early education and high school. Growing up in the rural part of Rwanda and being the second and the eldest girl child among four children has taught her always to be responsible and a role model to all, in everything; thus, she is a resilient, outgoing and a selfless person.

When she was a teenager, she got an opportunity to win a scholarship to China where her passion of traveling the world and interact with people of different races and nationalities started. She moved to British Guyana (South America); a country of six different races; where she lived for years and got an opportunity to know and learn about different diversity of indigenous people and their culture. She later moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she is currently residing. Thus, traveling has always been one of her hobbies along with making new friends, reading books, hiking. She is currently taking modeling and acting classes at John Casablanca’s modeling and acting agency and pursuing a bachelor’s degree in health sciences. She is fluent in mandarin Chinese, Kinyarwanda, English, and French.

Sandra is currently a professional behavioral health technician in phoenix and being involved in different programs that can benefit her community has always been her number one priority. She hopes one day to become a therapist to help those who are struggling mentally and an influencer.
She wants to use her platform to support and encourage young and elder African men and women who are struggling with their mental health due to different backgrounds and lack of knowledge about their identity, first to have a better understanding of who they are and then be able to express themselves to the outside world through technology.
